Spring is Here!

Spring has finally arrived in Indiana and we are finalizing our plans for the upcoming Licensing Show and preparing to ship our crate to Las Vegas (Booth # L 214 ). It is really hard to believe it is here already. We have had a busy start to 2016 and are pleased with our placement at retail as well as new products being launched by our licensees.
Baring any unknown factors, we look for 2016 to be a good year for Curtis.
Retail sales through March 2016 reflect a 2.8% increase over the same period in 2015. Big winners to date appear to be home improvement stores, furniture/home furnishing and garden. The losers once again are department stores showing a decrease of over 2%.  Pennys, Sears and Macys are all planning to close additional doors, which will create several open anchor locations around the country resulting in a challenge for mall owners. Currently Department Stores occupy 2/3 of the anchor spots in Malls. The trend toward niche stores and online shopping with Amazon has greatly affected this sector of retail.
Kim Parker just finished another successful Tabletop market in New York. Her expanded dinnerware collection from Lifetime was well received and they will have additional placement at retail this su mmer. As soon as the locations are finalized, we will let you know. Patton Picture Company has also had recent success in the wall décor sector with Kim’s designs and has several appointments scheduled in May. As these products begins to appear at retail, we will also let you know.
In Europe, our new agents Marlies and Tim in Germany have secured two new licensing programs already. Shanghai Huge Scents Factory will be launching several collections of functional tins. We have reviewed their layouts and prototypes and are very pleased with the designs and quality. We are excited about this new relationship and potential business. BPPM Plakat Production is also a new licensee in that market and will be developing a collection of tin signs and collectible small tin boxes. Congratulations to Tim and Marlies for the success and hard work!

Sotheby’s will be auctioning two Norman Rockwell paintings as part of their American Art Auction on May 18th. The paintings will be Road Block and Hobo. As always, we are happy to work with them  to help promote the event and are excited to see the results.

We will NOT be attending Surtex this year and look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas. We will be contacting you soon for appointments. We will be featuring newly curetted art collections from the Curtis archive as well as additional collections from Kim Parker and Mort Kunstler.

KPMK Please reach out to us to secure a meeting time and let us know if we can help with you current product development needs.
