Slowly But Surely

Our reports from the July shows indicate shows were quiet, but the mood was positive with quality buyers in attendance. Products with inspirational messages and fashion accessories are still selling well. A popular theme for products is “back to nature” while whimsical mermaids and unicorns are also trending up. Pantone’s 2018 color predictions are out already and next year will be all about neutral metallic (think pearlized, iridescent and translucent). Bold colors will also take over as pastels move aside. Here are Curtis, we have our eye on these trends as we continue to create and work on new materials.

We also continue to prepare for Brand Licensing Show which will take place in October, in London. We have exhibited at this show since 2015 and look forward to this year’s opportunity to meet new and existing licensees as well as catch up with our international agents. Cris Piquinela will be representing us there, let us know if you plan to attend!

Speaking of international agents, we are thrilled to announce that we have signed a new agent, NORTE,  to handle merchandise and promotional programs on our behalf in sunny Brazil! This is a completely new territory for us so we are very excited to be working with them.

In addition to our usual Curtis news and insights, from now on, we will be adding a new feature to our newsletter. This feature will spotlight a notable new program, or existing licensee. We hope you enjoy seeing what other licensees are doing and how they may be adapting our artwork to their own products or promotional campaigns.

August’s Licensee Spotlight: Branch Out, CO., LTD.

Branch Out is an exciting apparel and accessory company in Japan which distributes products throughout Asia. The fresh designs in their first collection incorporated our artwork, but creatively transformed it into a style that is both fresh and unique. Their program so far has included tops, skirts, shorts and shirts. We are very happy to be working with Branch Out and look forward to their next collection.

While it may not be happening as fast as we’d all want, but it is happening. U.S. retail sales had their biggest increase in seven months in July with sales jumping 0.6 percent, the largest gain since December 2016.

E-commerce continues its steady growth and at its current rate it will likely account for 9% of all retail sales by the end of the year. On National Retail Federation’s Stores magazine annual list of  “Hot 100 Retailers list for 2017”, based on growth percentage from 2016, the top 2 are online retailers:  #1 was Blue Apron, with 133 percent growth, and  #2 Wayfair with 54 percent.

As always, we are here to help you so let us know if you have any artwork needs! You can reach us at (317) 634-1100.
