Winter Blast Extends Through February!

I think we are all looking forward to spring bringing warmer temperatures and green replacing the snow. I think this is the year of records with new snow levels and record low temperatures throughout the majority of the country.  Even with these factors, retail sales keep chugging along. January sales were down slightly from December 2014, but posted an increase of 3.3% over January 2014. Revised sales for November and December 2014 showed a .3% increase over same time in 2013. The winning sectors at retail appear to be Housewares and Home products, which are posting the largest gains. Even with the lower fuel cost at the pump, the consumer is still cautious. Restaurant sales in January showed an increase of 7.4 % which could be linked to the weather and cabin fever.  Major retailers such as Macys and Kohls revised their yearend projections and posted better than expected results. Target is still recovering from their data breach and issues with the Canadian stores. Hopefully the sell off and closing of those stores and time will prove positive for their bottom line.  The Port situation on the west coast have also created issues at retail this year and if not resolved quickly could have a significant effect at retail as well as the over-all economy in the US.

We continue to hear good things about  the Atlanta  show and business in general. I attended the NY Now show and even though the weather had an effect on attendance, the overall attitude remained positive and those buyers that were able to attend were there to buy.

We are happy to announce Bethany Lowe Designs is a new licensee. She is a very well established company in the Holiday sector and has a very loyal following of quality retailers. She will be introducing Christmas and Halloween collections inspired by our archives in January 2016. We are looking forward to her launch and working with such a great company.

We are also pleased to announce an agreement between Art.com and our new client Kim Parker Designs.

Art.com will be offering Kim’s most popular works as well and five of her works on a exclusive basis. Art. Com has been a partner of ours on the Curtis side for several years and we are pleased to have them involved with Kim Parker.

Next month we will be traveling to Chicago to attend the Housewares Show. We look forward to several meetings with licensees and the opportunity to see new product introductions. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

Please let us know if we can help you with any of your needs.
