2017 Off to a Good Start!

Reports for  retail sales are in and every major sector except for auto dealers have reported increases. Retail sales for January rose 4% over December 2016 and 5.6% over January 2016. Department store sales which fell sharply in 2016, posted a 1.2% increase, which was the biggest increase in a year for this sector. This comes on the heels of Macy’s announcing they will close 100 stores and lay off 10,000 employees this year.  Non-Retail sales continued to lead the way for increases posting a 14.5% increase.  Consumers continue to shop from home on Amazon and other online merchants which will continue to grow internet sales and erode  brick and mortar retail. We have seen increases with our licensee with online sales and Flash sites, we will continue to look for other opportunities in this space.

We are thrilled to be working once again with the production team for the popular Netflix series House of Cards. The award-winning show has once again secured the right to display the famous “Working on the Statue of Liberty” image by Norman Rockwell as set dressing for the series in the upcoming new season.

It is a well-known fact that the original for that painting hangs in the White House and was one of President Obama’s favorites. Since the show’s set replicates the White House’s every detail, perhaps our image will be one of Kevin Spacey’s aka President Underwood’s favorites as well.
Post reports from licensees and friends in the industry are positive from the recent Atlanta Gift Show. Traffic was steady and the sales were strong. Our next show will be the International Housewares show next month in Chicago. This show will give us the opportunity to speak with several licensees and look for new opportunities. The Housewares market has remained strong and we do not anticipate any change. The Housewares Show also gives an insight on how things are internationally, which helps us react to our international agents’ needs.
We are hopeful that consumer confidence will continue on pace  and retail sales will continue to show increases.
Please let us know if we can help you with content selection or design.   We want you to be successful!
