Sales at Summer Markets
June retail sales reported by the census bureau showed an increase of 0.6% over May and up 2.7% over June 2015. The big category winners for June were Building Materials/Garden up 7.7%, Sporting Goods/Craft Hobby up 6.4% and Health and Personal Care up 7.5%. Online retail sales posted a impressive 14.2% increase against strong comps. The Retail industry trade organization sees positive trends in consumer spending to date and the National Retail Foundation raised it 2016 forecast to reflect a increase of 3.4% from the original forecast of 3.1%. Sluggish global growth and the general uncertainty over the presidential election still make many cautious moving forward.
Early reports are positive for the summer markets. We have been told that the July Atlanta market traffic was consistent with last July but sales showed an increase. Gift and Dec reported that buyers were looking for new introductions as well as top sellers to round out their assortments for the back half of the year. They also reported that retailers were also looking for and purchasing spring products for Q1 deliveries.
I will be attending the NY Now show next month and anxious to see if this trend continues in the northeast. I look forward to meeting with several licensees at the show and discussing new opportunities.
We will also be exhibiting at Brand Licensing show this October in London. We have appointed a new agent in the UK and look forward to working with her and her clients. Our agents from Germany and France will also be attending the show and hopefully we can add additional licensees in these markets.
Demdaco will be launching a new line of women’s Accessories this January featuring art from the Kim Parker Collection. The line will include several styles of scarves and fashion socks. We have had the opportunity to see the samples and are quite pleased with the execution. We look forward to the launch and hopefully the expansion of the line.
Patton Picture Company has successfully secured placement of wall décor featuring art from the Kim Parker in several major retailer starting this fall.
The retailer include Winners, Pier 1, World Market, Home Goods, Cost Plus and Bed Bath and Beyond. We are very pleased with the progress that Patton has made and look forward to all of these programs expanding and growing.
We have finalized a new licensing program with Rodale Publishing who is the publisher of several health related magazines including Men’s Health. Rodale with be licensing Post archival content to create, publish and distribute Special Issues. They plan of doing four per year and will be placing these issues in approximately 30,000 retail doors. This is great exposure for the Post Brand and will hopefully expand .
