Economy Continues

to Plug Along!

Retail sales numbers for June were released by the US Census and June reflected a 2% decline from May but showed a 2.8% increase over June 2016. As you drill deeper into the results the same patterns exist. Non-Store retail continues to show strong increases against solid past numbers. This sector had a 9.2% increase over June 2016. This trend will continue and the areas of retail it effects will expand. Amazon’s recent purchase of Whole Foods is a good example of where the market is going. Department Store sales were again sluggish experiencing a decrease of 4.2 % against weak numbers. Building materials, home and garden, furniture and home furniture are all holding their own all with increases. With rates holding and the market showing strong growth, I am hopeful back to school will be strong and it will carry-over into fourth quarter. I am personally optimistic about the balance of the year and feel the business will be there if you are in the right space.
Our next show is Brand License in October in the United Kingdom. Cris will be attending the show again which gives us a great opportunity to meet new potential licensees as well as work directly with our International Agents. We have already seen results from this interaction and the further building of relationships.
On a personal note, I have made the decision it is time to slow down a bit, step aside and give Cris and Nicole the opportunity to take over the management of Curtis Licensing. As you all know, both are extremely qualified, bright and dedicated to the Brand.  I have NO doubt this will be a seamless transition. Over the years, I have always prioritized service and relationships, that will NOT change. Curtis will continue to go the extra mile to answer your needs to help you be successful.  We have always considered our licensees a part of the Curtis Family as well as our business partners. Cris and Nicole both believe in this philosophy and we know this is something you have grown to expect for us. This too will not change.
I truly treasure the time I have had here at Curtis, working with the team as well as you the licensee. I have been able to develop a number of strong relationships which I am sure will continue. I appreciate that you have allowed me to a part of your business decision  process and have enjoyed watching your companies grow.
I have no doubt that our paths will cross again down the road. Please feel free to contact me direct with any questions regarding Curtis or the transition. I will be here through the end of July and can also always be reached on my cell (317) 432-5064. Thanks again for the support you have given Curtis Licensing!
