 Retails Sales Reflect Increase

The US Census Bureau released August ’15 retail sales results and once again they showed a increase over last year. August sales increased 0.02% over July ’15 and a 2.2% increase over August ’14. General Merchandise retail sales increased .6% with Department store sales still lagging with sales down 2.0%.  Gift Beat reports in their survey that their sampling showed 66% of the stores showing a increase and 34% down. Most stores surveyed foot traffic was up and in store promotions were helping to drive traffic and sales.

I attended the NY Now show last month and felt the traffic was steady. Most of the exhibitors I spoke with said their sales were good and the traffic dropped considerably the last few days of the show. Buyers seem to be coming to the shows on the front end and shortening their stay as a cost cutting measure. This definitely seems to be a trend across the country and will probably not change in the near future.

We are still busy following up with Licensing show requests and finalizing contracts. We have recently finalized an agreement with Spring Creative who will be offering fabric by the yard, packaged fabric, and pillow and throw kits. Spring is a leader in this sector and we are happy to have them as a partner.

We also have partnered with Marmont Hill Inc. Marmont will be handling flash site retail sales channels in wall décor. They will be offering framed as well as stretched canvas in a variety of sizes and treatments. They are an expert in this space and we fill fortunate to have them representing our archive. They just launched their first offering with our content through Gilt and we are waiting anxiously to hear the results.

Galison is also now on board for Christmas themed boxed cards. We have always admired their wonderful and creative lines and are very happy to be now working together.

The Kim Parker collection of fabric and wall paper by Clarke and Clarke just launched at the Decorex International Show in London.

The response was overwhelming and Kim received a lot of attention by local press and was featured in several magazines. This collection will be a worldwide offering by Clarke and Clarke encompassing over 90 countries including the US. This launch will bring even more awareness to Kim Parker and her brand.

We leave for the Brand Licensing show next month. We are looking forward to having the opportunity to explore a new market with our content and speak to new potential licensee as well as looking for new agent relationships.

We have a few additional exciting things happening here that we will announce next month… stay tuned!
